Is Your Body Too Warm? 😰 High "Pitta" and Its Associated Illnesses

Our elders often warn us that our "body heat has increased." Let's explore the Ayurvedic science behind an aggravated Pitta dosha and the ailments it triggers.

According to Ayurvedic medicine, an increase in what we commonly call "body heat" represents an aggravation or spike in the Pitta Dosha. Ayurveda teaches that our bodies operate on the balance of three vital energies (Tridosha): Vata, Pitta, and Kapha[cite: 1]. Among these, 'Pitta' governs internal temperature, digestion, and metabolic processes. When various triggers cause Pitta to rise excessively, it disrupts the body's natural equilibrium and paves the way for numerous illnesses.

🔍 Illnesses and Symptoms of Elevated Pitta

Let's take a closer look at the primary ailments and physical signs brought on by excessive internal body heat:

🌿 1. Digestive System Disorders

The primary seat of the Pitta dosha is the stomach and intestines. Therefore, whenever Pitta flares up, the digestive tract is always the first to suffer:

  • Gastritis (Acid Reflux): Experiencing burning sensations in the stomach and chest, frequently accompanied by sour belching.
  • Bloating and Diarrhea: Food failing to digest properly due to excessive internal heat.
  • Mouth Ulcers: Redness, inflammation, and painful sores developing inside the mouth and on the tongue.

🌿 2. Skin Diseases

There is an incredibly close relationship between the blood (Rakta Dhatu) and the Pitta dosha. When internal heat rises, it agitates the blood, manifesting as various skin issues:

  • Acne and Pimples: Sudden breakouts of red, inflamed, or pus-filled pimples on the face and back.
  • Skin Redness and Itching: The excessive heat causes the skin to become dry, red, intensely itchy, or break out in hives (urticaria).
  • Excessive Sweat and Body Odor: The body constantly works overtime to release this internal heat, leading to sweating well beyond normal amounts accompanied by a strong, unpleasant body odor.

🌿 3. Eye Burning and Vision Discomfort

Ancient Ayurvedic texts state, "Nayanang Pitta Visheshatho" (The eyes are deeply and specially connected to the Pitta dosha). Consequently, high body heat impacts eye health directly:

  • 👀 Marked redness, persistent burning sensations, and watery eyes.
  • Experiencing frequent eye strain and a slight blurriness in overall vision.

🌿 4. Mental Restlessness and Anger

The Pitta dosha exerts a powerful influence over our mental state. Individuals experiencing high body heat often note rapid shifts in temperament:

  • 😡 Irritability and Anger: Finding yourself becoming intensely angry or impatient over minor things.
  • Insomnia: Difficulty falling or staying asleep because the body heats up uncomfortably from the inside at night.

🌿 5. Burning Sensation During Urination

When systemic heat rises and overall hydration levels drop, it can easily irritate the urinary tract:

  • Experiencing a distinct burning sensation while urinating.
  • Urine turning a dark yellow or reddish hue.

⭕ Special Note: What Causes This?

The Pitta quality in the body rises rapidly due to specific habits: eating excessively spicy and heavily seasoned food, frequent exposure to direct sunlight, overconsumption of tea, coffee, or alcohol, and staying up late at night (lack of quality sleep).
